Our Favorite Trends from the Las Vegas Market

Up-and-Coming Design Elements We Love

The Sneak Peek Design team recently jetted off to Nevada for the Las Vegas Market and had an absolute blast. The event is held twice each year and is an interior design showcase that sets the pace for what’s trending and cutting-edge in our field. It crosses categories, including furniture, lighting, and home décor, and it’s an inspirational must see. Plus, they offer educational seminars and keynotes – all of which had us dreaming about the ways we can incorporate these beautiful elements into our upcoming designs.

So, what were our favorite trends? Let’s take a look. We’re pretty sure you’ll fall head over heels for them all (we certainly did).

Oversized Lighting

Oversized lighting was a major trend at this year’s market – especially for chandeliers and pendants. And, really, it makes perfect sense – why not take advantage of the opportunity to create a suspended statement piece? From fabric pendants and bold glass sculptures to duos and trios of various sizes, they were absolutely gorgeous.

Richer Color Palettes & Velvet

Ready to add some personality to your space? Then you can’t go wrong with bolder colors and a dash or two of velvet. From dramatic reds and organic greens to statement pinks and bold yellows, color made its way into just about every vignette this year (and we couldn’t get enough). We saw velvet crop up a lot as well – oftentimes paired with these rich hues – and since velvet is now viewed as luxurious, yet funky, it instantly added a timeless and eclectic look to each room. Put these two trends together, and we guarantee they’re a recipe for instant design success.

Fur

We came across fur nearly everywhere we went, and we LOVED it. Especially during this season, it’s such a comforting and inviting fabric choice, and it adds instant coziness to a bedroom, living room, or just about any other room in the home. Plus, it layers so well with a variety of other materials – especially if you’re sticking to more neutral tones – so it’s a great way to incorporate interesting texture into your design.

Layers of fur showcased in throw pillows, a draped blanket, and a sprawling white rug give this living room vignette a cozy and warm vibe.

Mid Mod / Scandinavian

The mid mod / Scandinavian look is huge right now, and the sleek lines and minimal silhouettes at the market had us practically swooning. For contemporary fans, this is definitely the route you’ll be inspired by, and we highly recommend incorporating a touch of this style to any space. Even if you’re not a big Scandinavian design lover, a strategically placed mid mod décor pop can work wonders – especially when mixed with more traditional and classic designs.

Mixed Metals & Dark Walls

Mixing metals has been big on the design scene for a few years now, but mixing metals and bold dark walls? Well, that trend is hitting a major stride in 2019, and we are 100% on board. There’s something so glam and classic about this combo that gives us all the luxurious feels (and who doesn’t want more of that?!). Moody and muted hues like black and navy blue were the most common background palettes, and when contrasted with the glitzy shine of everything from oil-rubbed bronze and brass to chrome and pewter, we couldn’t help but step back and admire it all.

Natural & Reclaimed Elements

Don’t worry – your favorite reclaimed dining table is still a design staple! Natural and reclaimed materials and finishes were still trend leaders this year, so you can expect to see them continue to crop up in the coming months. We especially love the rise of stone, copper, and concrete along with more natural woods – they’re timeless elements and we are forever fans.

Gold Leaf & Brushed Brass

While mixed metals were popular this year, brushed brass and gold leaf made an especially big impact, reminding us all that glitz and glam are very much on fire this year. As long as you don’t cover every surface in it, it’s a total classic that’s the perfect way to add a nice and bright splash of warmth to your space.

Glam & Rustic Duos

Speaking of glam, we saw a ton of glam and rustic combinations at the market that were simply stunning. There’s just something so right about traditionally opposite pairs – the glam side brings out a touch of drama, while the rustic elements keep things feeling natural and understated. The result is pure perfection.

Softness

Soft is in this year, and hygge, the Danish devotion to coziness, is seeing a major boost this side of the pond. We saw all kinds of layers from soft shearling and lamb fur to snuggle-worthy cashmere, and every single one made us want to curl up and enjoy an afternoon doing nothing but lounging. Adding a bit of warmth and soul into interior design is definitely needed, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to see this trend gaining popularity.

So, there you have it – these eye-catching trends are sure to make a splash in designs across the nation this year, so be sure to keep them on your radar. In the meantime, we can’t wait to add them to our own projects – from moss green to reclaimed wood, the limitless possibilities await.
