New Home Addition Project Reveal: Prior Lake

A New Home Addition Transforms A Charming Lakefront Property

A lakefront home is about as charming as it gets, so what could possibly make it any better? Why, a new home addition, of course! Our project at this Prior Lake home gives us all kinds of good vibes, and with a brand-new master suite, laundry, kitchen, and mudroom, how could it not?

So, let’s check it out…

The entire exterior of this home was redone (see before pic), including siding, board and batten, stone, all new roof lines, a “brow arched” stoop, and a kitchen bump out on the rear. An addition was added over the garage as well. Together, it added an instant element of class to this home’s exterior.

Master Bedroom

Pairing a color palette of calming neutrals and soft blues, this master suite that was created as a new home addition over the garage is the ultimate relaxation spot. In the bedroom, floor-to-ceiling windows and strategically-placed windows above the bed let in plenty of natural light from two sides, keeping the space feeling welcoming and bright. Plus, the French doors open up onto a spacious deck with views of the lake that are absolutely stunning. Can you imagine waking up to that view? It’s pure heaven.

Master Bath

Connected to the bedroom, of course, is a gorgeous master bath that we are totally in love with. Warm grays combine with creamy whites for a luxurious spa-like atmosphere, and to add visual interest, we incorporated multiple tile designs throughout the space. The arabesque tile makes for the perfect sink/vanity backsplash, while white subway tile and hex tile give the shower a crisp and clean look. Simple gray floor tile pulls the room together, creating a soft visual anchor for the room.

Laundry

Function and style come together perfectly in this laundry room, which was relocated to the new home addition upstairs (check out the before pic to see what the old mudroom/laundry space was like). A wide farmhouse apron sink offers a stylish and functional alternative to a utility sink, while granite countertops both around the sink and above the washer and dryer give ample space for folding laundry. To give the owners plenty of space for organization, too, we added both upper and lower cabinets, included a chrome hanging rod, and set out beautiful neutral baskets for sorting clothes. And as much as we all tend to put off laundry, we’ve got to admit that this room makes us want to fold clothes for hours!

Kitchen

Traditional style comes to life in this kitchen, no doubt. From the lantern pendants to the neutral base (via the creamy white cabinets with a pewter glaze, hardwood floors, and taupe/gray walls and backsplash), we love how warm and soft it feels. To incorporate contrast, we opted to give the kitchen island a subtle pop of color via a calming blue-gray shade. Plus, we made sure to include a dedicated coffee nook with a built-in pot filler – a favorite element of this kitchen. The result is a space that’s perfectly made for great conversation and cooking – it’s the kind of spot we could stay in all day long!

In this dedicated coffee nook, brushed bronze hardware gives a timeless look to the pewter-glazed creamy white cabinets, and it pairs perfectly with the light fixtures and faucet.

Mudroom

The mudroom adds much-needed storage solutions to this home, including four individual cubby columns – one for each family member. Upper shelves are filled with baskets to store various odds and ends (think gloves, extra hats, and scarves), while lower shelves give ample space for shoes, keeping everything in one space. Hooks, too, provide plenty of room for coats, hats, and backpacks to hang, making it easy to keep them up off the ground and away from those dreaded piles around the house. We could all use a designated storage spot in our own homes, and this mudroom is the perfect way to keep a family organized and the house as free of clutter as possible!

This mudroom keeps things organized by taking a small space and making it functional and user-friendly. Going vertical with shelving provides ample room for everything from shoes to gloves and backpacks – all in one place.

When form meets function, that’s where the magic happens, which is why we absolutely love this project. At the end of the day, remodels and home additions should be about more than expanding – they should be about creating spaces where you can live exactly how you want to live. Because we all deserve to feel right at home – wherever that may be.
